Aligarh is the city in Aligarh
district in the northern Indian State of Uttar Pradesh.Aligarh is mostly known
as University town where the famous Aligarh Muslim
University is located.
Aligarh was known by earlier name of kol or koil
before 18th century.
In 1875, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan founded the Muhammad Anglo Oriental College in
Aligarh and Patterned the college after Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Later
became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.
Aligarh is located as 27.88deg N 78.08deg E. The
main language spoken in Aligarh are Hindi, English
and Urdu.
